Kano, Lagos Demand Special Revenue Allocation From Nigerian Govt

Governors of Kano and Lagos States have made a demand from the federal government. The two states want a special allocation from the Federal Government of Nigeria. Governor Abdullahi Ganduje revealed that the states have made a case for 1 per cent in the new Revenue Allocation Formula. His spokesman, Abba Anwar, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday. Anwar said Ganduje spoke when Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu paid him a condolence visit over the death of Aliko Dangote’s brother, Sani Dangote. “Looking at the population of Kano, Lagos and other similarities of mega cities, both states demand 1 per cent in the new revenue allocation formula. “We have already made our submissions”, Ganduje announced. He noted that the states have the highest number of House of Representatives members – 24 each. Anwar quoted Sanwo-Olu saying while Lagos is the most populous city in Nigeria and in West Africa, Kano is the second. Outrage as Nigerian lady wrongfully jailed in Ivory Coast dies

Nigerians have taken to social media to express deep anger over the death of a wrongfully jailed Nigerian lady, Itunu Babalola. According to reports, 21-year-old Babalola from Oyo State was a trader based in Bondoukou, Cote d’Ivoire. Her apartment had been burgled by an Ivorian in September 2019 and she had reported the incident to the police but DPO informed her that the suspect was his nephew. He reportedly offered her a settlement worth roughly N100,000 to drop the case, an amount lesser than the N300,000 worth of stolen effects. Babalola was subsequently arrested when she refused the settlement, charged to court for human trafficking and sentenced to 10 years in prison. A journalist, David Hundeyin, had shared the story of Babalola on Twitter in March 2021 and the Nigerians In Diaspora Commission had said it was working to prove the innocence of Babalola. N242.24 bn Debt: MTN Withdraws Suit Against Nigerian Govt

Abuja (Precise Post) – MTN Nigeria Communications Plc on Friday said its case with the federal government over alleged revenue indebtedness of N242.24 billion and $1.28 billion had been withdrawn. MTN Nigeria stated this in a regulatory filing to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) signed by its Company Secretary, Uto Ukpanah. The company said its legal counsel received a letter from the Attorney General of the Federation, which formally withdrew the government’s demand for the funds. “MTN Nigeria is pleased to report that its legal counsel has received a letter dated Jan.8 2020 from the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (the AGF) formally withdrawing the demand for N242,244,452,215.97 and $1.283,610,357.86 alleged revenue indebtedness,” the company said in a statement.
