The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to its members engaging in acts of disloyalty, particularly those openly endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027. The party described such behavior as clear anti-party conduct, which poses a serious threat to its unity and future.
In a statement released on Friday by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) through its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party condemned the actions of members whose endorsements of Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) contradict the PDP Constitution.
According to the NWC, these endorsements violate Section 10(6) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), which expressly prohibits members from aligning with other parties or groups in a manner that undermines the PDP or any of its elected governments.
“The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has reviewed the anti-party activities of certain members, especially those endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027. Such actions, including persistent public statements supporting the APC, constitute a grave breach of party discipline,” the statement read.
The party noted that these actions have contributed to internal division, disaffection among loyal members, and erosion of the PDP’s grassroots strength—factors that could significantly damage its electoral prospects if left unchecked.
To address the issue, the NWC invoked the authority granted under Section 59(1) of the PDP Constitution to issue a formal warning. It called on all erring members to desist immediately or face stringent disciplinary measures.
“In light of the urgent need to safeguard the integrity and cohesion of our party, the NWC strongly cautions those involved to retrace their steps or risk severe sanctions,” the statement emphasized.
The PDP leadership also urged all members to prioritize unity and channel their energy toward the party’s upcoming National Convention, scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The NWC concluded by reaffirming its commitment to upholding internal democracy and ensuring the PDP remains a strong and united alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.
