The Rivers State Police Command has announced a total restriction of movement across the state ahead of the Local Government Elections on August 30, 2025.
In a press briefing, Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko said the restriction will run from 12:00 a.m. (midnight) to 6:00 p.m., covering both pedestrians and vehicles.
Who’s exempted? Only those on essential election duties—like electoral officers, accredited observers, and security agents—will be allowed to move around.
“This measure is necessary to guarantee peace, protect voters, and ensure election officials carry out their duties without disruption,” Iringe-Koko explained.
Police and other security agencies will be strategically deployed across land and waterways to secure polling stations and sensitive areas.
She urged residents to cooperate fully with security operatives and report suspicious activities immediately.
The elections will see the emergence of new chairpersons and councillors across all 23 LGAs of Rivers State.
