Taraba: Governor Kefas Disband Faransa-led Taskforce on Environment

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has announced the dissolution of the Brigadier General JA Faransa led taskforce on the environmental protection against activities of miners a d felling of Rose Wood in the State.

Mrs Jemima Nwunuji, Permanent Secretary, Public Affairs who signed a statement on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the State SGF Chief Gibson Kataps said that the State governor Agbu Kefas has directed all equipment with the taskforce should be handed over to the SGF office.

The statement disclose that going forward the works of the taskforce will be handled by the respective local councils in the State.

She said that the Executive Order of the State government on illegal mining and felling of Rose Wood remains in place but the implementation is only decentralise.

There were speculations that the State governor tactically fired Faransa over some of his excesses in carrying out the State assignment.

However, the statement cleared the air saying that he was relieved of t he appointment to enable him work more efficiently as the Chairman, Taraba State Board of Internal Revenue, an assignment he was carrying concurrently with the chairmanship of the taskforce.

Our Correspondent recall that the taskforce recently destroyed mining equipment supposedly belonging to the State government worth over ₦10bn, stiring public criticism and discuss.
