Finally, President Ahmed Tinubu has bowed to pressure from Nigerians and had slashed travel convoy of government officials, including the presidency by 60 percent to reduce cost of governance.
According to the announcement by the President, the foreign and local trips of senior government officials will be as follows:
FOREIGN TRIPS :
•President – 20 persons
•Vice President – 5 persons
•First Lady – 5 persons
•Minister – 4 persons
•Heads of MDAs – 2 persons
LOCAL TRIPS
•President – 25 persons.
•Vice President – 15 persons.
•First Lady – 10 persons.
Recall that this announcement of reduction in cost of governance is coming shortly after the christmas and new year celebratons.
Precise Post recalls that during the yuletide season, the Nobel Lauret, Wole Soyinka visited President Tinubu in his private residence at Ikoyi where he had private discussions with him. At the end of the meeting, Soyinka who was asked by the journalist to rate the performance of Tinubu administration so far declined, stressing that it would be premature to rate the President who is yet to mark one year in office.
Political pundits are of the view that Soyinka may have advised Tinubu on areas that is needed to be ammended.
