Tinubu Host Taraba Gov.After Defection From PDP To APC

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, on Monday paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, marking his first appearance at the Presidency since his recent move from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress , APC.

Kefas, who arrived alongside the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, immediately proceeded into a private meeting with the President.

His visit comes weeks after he postponed his official APC reception scheduled for November 19, explaining that holding a political celebration would be inappropriate while Kebbi State was grappling with the abduction of schoolgirls in Maga.

Tensions within the PDP have also intensified in Taraba, where the Speaker of the House of Assembly and 15 lawmakers defected to the APC, citing the need to align with the central government and raising concerns about national-level instability within the opposition.

The APC, meanwhile, continues to intensify its outreach to prominent figures in PDP strongholds across the North and Middle Belt ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kefas, a retired lieutenant colonel in the Nigerian Army and former chairman of the board of NIMASA, secured the Taraba governorship in March 2023 under the PDP. Before emerging as the party’s flag bearer, he previously served as the Taraba State PDP chairman and hails from Wukari.
