ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, representing Adamawa Central Senatorial district, has expressed optimism that the with the peaceful resolution of the secretariship tussle which he referred to as a family affair, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is on the path to recovery and electoral success ahead of 2027 general election.
Senator stated this on Tuesday while feilding questions from newsmen in his office on a wide range of issues as it affects the PDP.
Responding to questions as to the magic that was adopted while resolving the issue of authentic Secretary of the party, Sen Abbaa said the issue was settled as a “family affair.”
Adding, “When your children fight, you don’t use magic to settle them, you settle as a family. That’s what we did. They went in, came out, and adopted one person,” he said.
Despite his absence at the meeting, the party stalwart expressed satisfaction with the outcome and noted that the party is now positioned for greater unity heading into future elections.
Reacting to questions over influence of some party figures perceived to be working with rival political parties, especially the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with direct reference to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike despite his ties to PDP and why the party cannot sanction him; whether it is because he is the one funding the party?
“He claims to be funding PDP, but how do you fund a party and then revoke its property, Senator Abbas queried, dismissing the claims and calling for due process to be followed if accusations of anti-party activities are to be established.
The Adamawa born politician also took a swipe at the APC, saying: “I once carried the APC broom, but I threw it away because it doesn’t sweep well. I picked up the PDP umbrella, and we’ve done well in my state.”
Responding to concerns about possible defections and a weakening party base, the senator insisted that “politics is local” and PDP remains strong on the ground.

While reacting to the issue of national development and the role of science and technology, Senator Abbas decried the underfunding of science and research in Nigeria, calling for serious investment in research and development.
“If we’re serious as a nation, we must invest heavily in science and technology. That’s the only thing that can save us.”
Asked whether the recent NEC meeting was just a charade due to unresolved internal divisions, he defended the gathering saying:
“Governors were there, the NEC was there and a date was fixed for the next meeting. That’s progress.”
Precise Post recalls that in what has been described as a step toward reconciliation and stability, PDP on Monday resolved the long-standing leadership tussle over the position of National Secretary during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.
The meeting, which many party stakeholders hailed as successful, marked the resolution of the internal wrangling between party chieftains Samuel Anyanwu and Senator Udi Okoye over the party’s secretariat leadership.
