GUSAU (PRECISE POST) — The United Nations has reiterated its commitment to tackling pressing development challenges in Nigeria’s northwest region, as Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed paid a strategic visit to Zamfara State.
During her visit to Gusau, the state capital, Mohammed held high-level talks with Governor Dauda Lawal and other key government officials, focusing on strengthening collaboration between the UN and local authorities.
According to the statement released on the official X account of United Nations Nigeria on saturday, the meeting underscored a shared determination to confront critical issues affecting the state and the broader northwest zone.
Speaking during the engagement, the UN Deputy Chief emphasized the organization’s readiness to support Zamfara in key sectors vital to sustainable development. These include improving access to quality education, strengthening healthcare systems, boosting agricultural productivity, promoting gender equality, addressing climate-related challenges, and enhancing the responsible development of solid mineral resources.
Zamfara, like much of northwest Nigeria, continues to face complex socio-economic challenges. Mohammed’s visit signals renewed international attention and a coordinated effort to accelerate progress in the region.
Officials present at the meeting welcomed the UN’s continued partnership, noting that such collaboration is essential for driving long-term growth, stability, and resilience. The discussions also explored practical pathways for implementing impactful programs that directly benefit communities.
