Refund N665.8bn Illegally Withdrawn From Special Fund – Senate To Accountant General

By Our Reporter Abuja – The Senate has directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to refund within 60 days, the sum of N665.8 billion illegally withdrawn from Development of Natural Resources Fund and Stabilization Funds and given as loans to various government agencies, The Red Chamber said the funds were withdrawn between 2004 and 2015 contrary to the established objectives of the fund. The revelation is contained in the report of Senate Committee on Public Accounts on the Federation Account. The committee had been investigating expenditures of federal government agencies from 2015-2018 based on an audit report by the Auditor-General for the Federation. The panel presented the report of its six-month investigation on the Federation Account for the year 2015, which was approved by the Red Chamber before proceeding on annual recess. The Auditor General’s report, in its query against depletion of Special Funds had said, “Amount totaling N455.8 billion were withdrawn from Development of Natural Resources Fund as loans to various beneficiaries between 2004 and 2015, contrary to the established objectives of the fund. “The purpose of the Development …

Alhaji Buhari Oloto, a popular Lagos-based socialite and monarch, is dead, The Nation reports. The late Oloto was installed as the Oba of Iguruland, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos last September. He was said to be 80. Oba Oloto, popularly known as Buhari Oloto and later called Abu Oloto, was a popular figure in the Lagos social scene for over 40 years. The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has taken responsibility for the disqualification of 10 Nigerian athletes at the ongoing Tokyo Olympic games. CBN to refund deposits to BDC promoters

Sequel to the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria to stop the licensing of Bureau de Change operators, the apex bank has announced that it will commence the immediate reimbursement of capital deposits and licensing fees to BDC promoters with pending license applications. The bank disclosed this in a circular with the reference number: FPRIDIRIPUBICIR/001/019 issued on Thursday, noting that the capital deposits and licensing fees amount to N35 million and N1 million, respectively. The circular was signed by the Director, Financial Policy and Regulation department, Ibrahim Tukur. It read, “Further to the Monetary Policy Committee briefing of July 27 2021 the Central Bank of Nigeria will commence the immediate refund of capital deposits and licensing fees (where applicable) to promoters who have pending Bureau de Change license applications with the CBN.” In line with the announcement, the CBN instructed the promoters as follows: “Such BDC promoters should forward their requests for the refund in writing to the Director Financial Policy and Regulation Department Central Bank of Nigeria, Abuja.” It added that the request should be accompanied with certain …

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has fixed Friday, 6th August, 2021 for 18, 000 candidates who missed the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to retake the examination. The Board said the examination will take place in some select locations across the country. JAMB’s Head of Media Fabian Benjamin said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja. Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari on Thursday denied allegations he ever demanded or received a bribe from celebrity internet fraudster Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, alias Hushpuppi, from a $1.1million loot. In a post on his Facebook page, Kyari said those celebrating the allegations against him would be disappointed.
