The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, says politicians campaign with road projects because of their economic impact on society. He said this at the 27th meeting of the National Council on Works and Housing held in Bauchi on Thursday. The minister explained that since the implementation of the Marshall plan in 1948, after the Second World War, it has become clear to any serious-minded economist or politician that infrastructure provision is critical to development, growth, wealth creation, employment and prosperity. According to him, investment in infrastructure is the most legitimate way to distribute wealth in any economy. He said, “This is why it is not surprising that during campaigns for elections and after elections, you will find discussions not only centering around roads, bridges, rails, schools, hospitals, water supply and power supply to be provided, you will also find that in the inauguration speech of every President, Prime Minister, Governor and other elected public officers, time is dedicated to addressing the provision of infrastructure. “The reason for this is not far-fetched. Insurgency: Destruction Of Public Infrastructure Worse Than Imagined -Lai Mohammed

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, has lamented the rate of destruction of infrastructure by terrorists in Borno State and other parts of the country. According to him, the destructions are worse than he had imagined. He said this at a town hall meeting in Maiduguri on Thursday. The minister said, “I must confess that, based on the two town hall meetings (held earlier), the situation regarding the wanton destruction of public infrastructure is worse than we had imagined. “For example, we were told that it would cost the Federal Government 3.8 billion Naira to repair just four bridges that were damaged by vandals and petrol-laden tankers. That’s a huge amount that could have been used to build new infrastructure. “It is common knowledge that massive infrastructure deficit is among the challenges we face in Nigeria. This is why the Muhammadu Buhari Administration has deliberately adopted an inclusive infrastructure provisioning framework that spreads to all sections of the country. “We could not have chosen a better venue than Maiduguri, which has been cut off from public power …
