By Chris Udochukwu Abuja (Precise Post) – Nasarawa State governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has flagged off a mega free medical outreach that will provide free medical care for 6000 patients, with medical doctors to undertake over 300 surgeries. Engineer Sule flagged off the outreach at a ceremony that held at the premises of the Dalhatu Araf Specialists Hospital (DASH), in Lafia, on Tuesday. The medical outreach, which is been carried out as part of activities marking the 25th anniversary of the creation of Nasarawa State, is in conjunction with the Doctors on the Move Africa (DOTMA), a not for profit organisation and will provide free OPD drugs, general gynecology operation, cataract operation, ultra sound scan, lab tests and free reading glasses. Declaring the one-week event open, Engineer Sule said the exercise was in furtherance of the statewide free medical outreach, aimed at improving the quality of life, particularly of the less privileged and indigent members of the society. This was disclosed in a release signed by the Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Balarabe Ilelah, on Tuesday. “Following the approval granted by the president, NBC has released the list of 159 licenses granted to companies, communities and institutions of higher learning. “The commission was established by the NBC ACT, Cap. Many have been feared dead when a mining site collapsed in Anyiin, Logo local government area of Benue State on Tuesday. Mining activities have been going on in the area for years but it could not be confirmed if they were licensed by the Federal Government or not. A youth who was at the mining site told The Nation the incident occurred in a settlement called Duejime, near Anyiin when the deep gully suddenly collapsed. “Two of the miners died at the spot while others sustained serious injuries and were taken to a hospital in Anyiin,” he stated. House of Reps names conference committee on Electoral Act

The House of Representatives on Tuesday named a seven-man conference committee to work with the Senate to harmonise grey areas in the Electoral Act amendment bill passed by both chambers before their summer break. Members of the Committee include Akeem Adeyemi, who will lead the team; James Abiodun Faleke (APC, Lagos); Aisha Dukku (APC, Gombe); Blessing Onuh (APC, Benue); Nyima Idem (PDP, Akwa Ibom); Chris Azubogu (PDP, Anambra) and Abdullahi Kalambaina (APC, Sokoto). The Conference Committee is to work with the Senate Committee, which was constituted on resumption of plenary to perfect the Electoral Act and get it ready for Presidential assent.
