IBADAN – The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has unveiled Mr Muftau Salawu as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
The unveiling ceremony was held on Wednesday at the state party secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
In his remarks, the state chairman of APM, Mr Adegbenro Fagbemi, described Salawu’s emergence as a strategic move aimed at strengthening the APM-PDP alliance and continuing the good work of Gov. Seyi Makinde.
He said the joint ticket of the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Bimbo Adekanmbi, and Salawu as deputy would sustain and expand Makinde’s development agenda.
He said Salawu’s leadership qualities, political experience, and commitment to community development make him a suitable choice for the position.
The APM chairman expressed confidence that Salawu’s nomination would enhance the APM-PDP coalition’s chances in the 2027 governorship contest.
He said the alliance was established to address the developmental challenges facing the state.
In his remarks, the governorship candidate, Adekanmbi, said the choice of Salawu was based on competence and experience.
“Salawu is a qualified engineer with professional experience and currently heads the State Project Monitoring Team.
“All the projects that citizens appreciate in the state have been monitored by him to ensure they meet required standards.
“So his choice as deputy governorship candidate is in the right direction, and we are ready to continue the good work started by Gov. Makinde.
“Makinde laid a good foundation through infrastructure development, salary payments, agricultural reforms, and security initiatives.
“The state, therefore, deserves a capable team to succeed him,” he said.
Adekanmbi appealed to all residents of Oyo State to support his candidacy so that the good governance provided by Makinde’s administration could continue.
In his acceptance speech, Salawu thanked the leadership of APM and PDP, pledging loyalty to the coalition’s vision.
He urged aggrieved party members to set aside their differences, saying their focus must be on winning the next election and ensuring that the progress achieved in Oyo State is sustained.
Reports that Adekanmbi is from Ibadan/Ibarapa zone of the state while Salawu is from Ogbomosho zone.
Makinde’s faction of the PDP formed an alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in May.
The alliance provided an avenue for all candidates in the PDP faction to contest under the APM platform, including the governor, who had declared his intention to run for president on the party’s ticket.(NAN)
