ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  — British Airways has kicked off activities to celebrate 90 years of uninterrupted operations in Nigeria with a high-profile visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The airline’s senior management delegation, led by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, met with the President on Wednesday as part of events commemorating nearly a century of aviation partnership between the United Kingdom and Nigeria, the statement released on the X account of the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Pubilicity, Temitope Ajayi said.
The British Airways team included Chief Commercial Officer, Colm Lacy; Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, Neil Chernoff; and Senior Manager, International Affairs, Alan Campbell. Other members of the delegation were Moran Birger and Adetutu Otuyalu.
On the Nigerian side, the meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; and the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The visit underscores British Airways’ long-standing presence and strategic importance in Nigeria’s aviation sector, dating back to its early operations linking Lagos to London. Over the decades, the airline has played a pivotal role in facilitating trade, tourism, and diplomatic ties between both countries.
Industry observers say the 90th anniversary is not just a celebration of longevity but also a reflection of the resilience of bilateral relations and the growing importance of Nigeria as a key aviation market in West Africa.
Further activities are expected in the coming days as the airline commemorates the milestone, highlighting its contributions to connectivity, economic growth, and global integration for Nigerian travelers.
