Makinde Raises LAUTECH Hospital Guards’ Pay from ₦18,800 to ₦80,000 After Emotional Plea

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved a massive salary increase for 67 security guards at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, raising their monthly pay from a meager ₦18,800 to ₦80,000.

The life-changing intervention came after one of the guards broke down in tears during the governor’s visit to the facility, narrating how they had been underpaid for years despite several protests.

The guard revealed that since June 2021, they had staged demonstrations demanding better pay but nothing was done. He pleaded with the governor, stressing that many of them were indigenes of Oyo State struggling to feed their families.

Visibly moved, Governor Makinde asked about their actual earnings. When told they were being paid just ₦18,800 monthly by a contractor who received ₦27,000 per worker, the governor acted immediately.

“I can solve the problem right away by saying that all 67 should be converted directly to ad-hoc workers and you will get ₦80,000 every month starting from October 1,” Makinde announced.

The declaration sparked jubilation among hospital workers, who hailed the decision as long overdue and transformational for the struggling guards.

Public Reactions

The move has earned Governor Makinde widespread praise on social media. Many Nigerians described it as an act of empathy and true leadership, especially from a governor serving his final term.

@Mbahdeyforyou: “Very commendable act from Gov. Makinde.”

@tobathenurse: “This guy is amazing. The way he transformed Oyo in a few years is incredible. I think he’s the best candidate for Presidency.”

@BluX1q: “This is good but still not enough. A bag of rice, school fees, daily expenses—everything consumes the money. They need to do better.”

While some applauded the raise as life-changing, others urged further improvements to match Nigeria’s high cost of living.

Makinde’s Leadership Track Record

This latest intervention adds to Makinde’s growing reputation for prioritizing workers’ welfare and social justice in Oyo State. Commentators noted that despite being in his second and final term, he continues to implement policies that directly impact ordinary citizens.
