Akpabio Reiterates Call for Nigerians to Hold Lawmakers Accountable

by Joy: News Admin

As the Nigerian Senate resumed plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged Nigerians to actively engage their elected representatives and ensure accountability, stressing that democracy thrives when citizens participate meaningfully in the legislative process.

Addressing senators after a brief adjournment that allowed committees to complete legislative assignments, Akpabio described the Senate as a “workshop of solutions” rather than a forum for political posturing. He encouraged citizens to channel their concerns to lawmakers, noting that effective representation transforms public grievances into actionable policies.

Highlighting the national budget currently under consideration, Akpabio described it as a critical tool for translating the nation’s development priorities into policy. He called on legislators to focus on national interest, allocate public resources responsibly, and ensure policies strengthen institutions and improve the lives of Nigerians.

The Senate President also acknowledged the growing role of social media in shaping public discourse but emphasised that the legislative process remains essential for turning public concerns into concrete outcomes.

Concluding his remarks, Akpabio urged senators to debate with vigour but act with wisdom, and to place the country’s welfare above political differences as they resume deliberations on major national issues, including the 2026 Appropriation Bill and constitutional reforms.
