ABUJA (PRECISE POST) –   A wave of transformation has swept through Auchi College as members of the Association of Great Achievers, Class of ’91, undertake an ambitious multi-billion naira reconstruction and rehabilitation project aimed at restoring the institution’s lost glory and elevating it to international standards.
Led by oil and gas entrepreneur Peter Omoh Dunia, popularly known as Peter Black, the alumni group has completed over 90 percent of the extensive upgrade, driven by a commitment to improve learning conditions and staff welfare at their alma mater.

The intervention has delivered a sweeping facelift across the college, with cutting-edge facilities designed to reposition the school as a modern centre of academic excellence. Key projects include a fully equipped ICT/Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre housing 320 computers, which also doubles as a digital library, alongside a modern science laboratory complex for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
In addition, the school now boasts a state-of-the-art sports complex featuring a synthetic football pitch, improved drainage systems, newly constructed internal roads, and a fortified perimeter fence to enhance security.
Other critical infrastructure includes a modern gatehouse, solar-powered borehole system with a 10,000-litre capacity, campus-wide water reticulation, and a 20KVA lithium hybrid solar power system. Security and lighting have also been enhanced with CCTV cameras and solar-powered streetlights installed across the premises.

Further developments encompass the renovation of a 1,000-capacity event centre, a new administrative block, multipurpose hall, furnished classrooms, and a home economics laboratory. The former Vice Principal’s residence has been repurposed into a cafeteria, sickbay, and accommodation for corps members.
The масштаб renovation effort was sparked by the dire condition of the college, which had deteriorated significantly over the years. According to school authorities, the intervention has reversed years of neglect and infrastructural decay.
Principal of the senior school, Mrs. Adam Obetaru-Jato, described the transformation as unprecedented, recalling the deplorable state of the institution when she assumed duty in 2024.
She noted that many buildings were in ruins, with leaking roofs and overgrown surroundings making learning nearly impossible, especially during the rainy season. The ongoing reconstruction, she said, has restored hope among staff and students.

Project Engineer, Mr. Kenneth Asekome, revealed that the initiative was born out of a visit by Dunia in 2024, during which he was confronted with the stark realities of the school’s condition. Moved by what he saw, Dunia mobilised his former classmates to undertake a comprehensive intervention.
Work commenced shortly after, with construction teams operating round-the-clock to meet project timelines.
A member of the Board of Trustees of the association, Mr. Dairo Samuel, explained that the projects were carefully selected and executed to meet both national and international standards. He added that the facilities were designed not only for the school community but also for broader public use.
The transformation has drawn widespread commendation from community members, who described the intervention as timely and impactful. Residents noted that students previously endured harsh learning conditions, particularly during adverse weather, and expressed gratitude to the alumni for stepping in where previous efforts had failed.
Community leaders, women, and youth groups praised Dunia’s leadership and the collective commitment of the Class of ’91, describing the initiative as a model of community-driven development.
With final touches underway, the stage is set for the official commissioning of the projects on April 6, 2026. The event is expected to be performed by Monday Okpebholo and will attract top government officials, business leaders, and stakeholders from across Nigeria.
As Auchi College prepares to unveil its new face, the effort by its alumni stands as a powerful testament to the impact of giving back—transforming not just infrastructure, but the future of generations to come.
