ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fake online publication claiming to be a special announcement by the Commission on governorship candidates in six states.
The Commission described the publication as fraudulent, insisting that it did not originate from INEC and urging members of the public to disregard it and refrain from sharing it.
INEC issued the warning in a public notice released on its official X handle on Monday, following the circulation of the purported announcement concerning governorship candidates in Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano states.
“The Commission wishes to categorically inform the general public that the publication is FAKE and did not originate from INEC,” the notice stated.
The electoral body also dismissed as false any suggestion that it had issued a special announcement concerning governorship candidates in the six states.
It urged Nigerians to exercise caution when consuming and sharing electoral information, stressing the importance of verifying such reports through its official communication channels to avoid being misled by fraudulent publications.
INEC advised the public to obtain authentic information from its official website, inecnigeria.org, its Facebook page, INEC Nigeria, and its verified X and Instagram accounts, @inecnigeria.
The Commission also directed members of the public to its news portal, inecnews.com, for official updates and information.
For enquiries and further clarification, INEC provided its call centre number, 0700-2255-4632, short code 4632, telephone numbers 090844444333 and 09050858629, as well as its official email address, [email protected].
Reaffirming its commitment to keeping Nigerians accurately informed, the Commission urged citizens to disregard the fake notice and rely exclusively on its verified communication platforms for electoral updates.
