ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  The President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, General Birame Diop, has called on the management and staff of the regional bloc’s institutions and agencies to strengthen collaboration, solidarity and hard work to improve service delivery across West Africa.

Precise Post recalls that Diop made the call during an official visit to the Office of the Auditor General of ECOWAS Institutions in Abuja, Nigeria.

According to a statement published on the official X handle of ECOWAS on Sunday, the visit provided an opportunity for the Commission president and his delegation to engage with the institution’s management and staff, assess its operational challenges and explore collaborative solutions involving the Commission, its institutions and member states.

Diop was accompanied on the visit by the Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, Anthony Oluwatosin Ogunjimi, and the Commissioner for Internal Services, Dr Kalilou Sylla.

Addressing the management and staff, the ECOWAS Commission president stressed the need for collective commitment and stronger institutional cooperation to ensure efficient and impactful services for citizens of the West African regional bloc.

“It is time for all of us to roll up our sleeves, work hard, and collaborate in a spirit of solidarity so that, together, we can deliver the benefits of regional integration to our Community citizens,” Diop declared.

Earlier, the Auditor General of ECOWAS Institutions, Carla Maria Borges Bettencourt, expressed appreciation to the Commission president and his delegation for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of his commitment to the welfare and advancement of the Commission, its institutions and agencies.

Bettencourt reaffirmed the commitment of the Office of the Auditor General to promoting transparency, accountability, resilience and regional integration across West Africa.

She also underscored the importance of institutional responsibility in advancing the objectives of the regional organisation.

The visit, according to ECOWAS, was aimed at fostering engagement between the Commission’s leadership and its institutions, identifying operational difficulties and encouraging joint efforts to address challenges affecting their effectiveness.

Precise Post recalls that the renewed emphasis on collaboration comes as ECOWAS continues to pursue regional integration and improved institutional performance, with its leadership seeking to ensure that the benefits of cooperation translate into more effective services for citizens across member states.
