ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –   The President of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, Justice Charlyne M. Brumskine, has received the Auditor-General of ECOWAS Institutions, H.E. Carla Borges Bettencourt, on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration, promoting accountability and enhancing compliance with established procedures within the West African regional bloc.

Bettencourt paid the visit to Justice Brumskine on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the headquarters of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in Abuja, Nigeria, the statement released on Monday on the official  X handle of the Commission said.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both officials to discuss the importance of closer working relations between their respective institutions, particularly in ensuring a shared understanding of their mandates, responsibilities and operational procedures.

Discussions also centred on issues of institutional compliance and adherence to established administrative and operational guidelines, which are essential to the effective functioning of ECOWAS institutions.

The engagement underscored the need for sustained communication and mutual understanding between the Community Court of Justice and the office of the Auditor-General of ECOWAS Institutions, given their distinct but complementary responsibilities within the regional organisation.

While the Community Court of Justice plays a critical role in interpreting and applying ECOWAS Community laws and ensuring respect for legality within the regional bloc, the Auditor-General’s office is responsible for providing institutional oversight in matters relating to accountability and compliance.

The meeting was attended by Honourable Judges of the ECOWAS Court, directors, heads of divisions and other key officials from both institutions.

Their presence highlighted the institutional importance attached to the engagement and the need to deepen cooperation across the various administrative and judicial structures of the ECOWAS Community.

According to information published on the official X handle of ECOWAS, the visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of both institutions to strengthening inter-institutional relations, promoting accountability and upholding the principles of legality and the rule of law across the West African Community.

The engagement is expected to further encourage constructive institutional relations and a better appreciation of the respective mandates of both bodies in advancing transparency, accountability and effective governance within ECOWAS.

It also highlights the importance of cooperation among regional institutions in ensuring that established laws, regulations and administrative procedures are respected in the discharge of their responsibilities.
