ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has vowed to work towards rebuilding Nigeria and freeing the country from what he described as the shackles of bad leadership, corruption and lack of accountability.
Obi made the remarks in a post on his X handle on Thursday, following a series of meetings with British government officials and members of the Nigerian diaspora in London on Wednesday.
He said the engagements centred on the collective responsibility of Nigerians to rebuild the country and address persistent leadership failures that continue to undermine national development.
According to him, bad leadership, corruption and the absence of accountability have deprived millions of Nigerians of access to basic necessities, including quality healthcare, education and decent employment.
Obi, who arrived in London from Basel, Switzerland, on Wednesday, October 21, said he spent the day attending several engagements, including meetings with stakeholders in the United Kingdom.
He disclosed that he rounded off the day’s activities with a meeting organised by the COPDEM Chief and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Diaspora Affairs, which brought together other stakeholders in London.
The former Anambra State governor stressed that Nigeria must become a country where every life matters, hard work is rewarded and citizens have fair opportunities to succeed, irrespective of their backgrounds or connections.
He said the country should be one where ordinary citizens could rise to positions of influence through merit and hard work rather than personal connections.
“We must build a Nigeria where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody. A country that works for everyone, not just a privileged few,” Obi stated.
He added that Nigerians deserved a nation where access to opportunities and essential services was not restricted by privilege or connections.
