“Nigerians have suffered enough in the hands of heartless public officers who, in most cases, are not serving the interest of the Nigerian masses”
By Jibrin Oketepa, SAN
Nigerians need to ensure that the pains they are subjected to by overrated and sometimes empty arrongant display of primitive powers by some public officials are checkmated, hencefort. Virtually everyone in positions of power in Nigeria abuse it. The citizens are nobody to these empty, arrongant public servants who, in most cases, are not serving the public. These arrongant displays of emptiness are everywhere.
For instance, there are there in the three departments of government. In Nigeria, most people in power boast of their ominipower to do anything and get away with it. They can kill, and nothing will happen. They know that in Nigeria, there are no remedies for victims of wrongs. Those who are close to those in power or corridors of power are as worse as useless. When you see how these uncultured public officers or public servants behave on the roads with their convoys and how in most cases they horsewhiped or allowed their aids to horsewhiped Nigerians out of the roads for them to pass you weep for poor and poverty stricken Nigerians.
These people recruited and put their kinds in charge of our systems of justice, and they use the systems and institutions meant to give remedies to those injured to pervert the most heinous crimes and oppression against Nigerians. They boast of their evil connections and have no respect for the sanctity of the lives of Nigerians. Nigerians are at the mercies of those who should ordinarily be the servants of Nigerians. The level of wickedness in our law has reached high heavens. These sets of people are ready to destroy Nigeria for their self-serving interests. They have no respect for law and order.
As a matter of fact, these crooked and wicked generations of public servants are laws unto themselves and they breach both the constitution and disrespect the institution of justice with impunity and audacity of arrogance and still run to the same institution they disrespected and desecrated for orders. In most cases, the desecrated and disrespected institution of justice will still grant them remedies while in iniquities of the very institution and the constitution they sworn to protect and uphold. I think we have a lot on our hands.
Nigerians must wake up to make Nigeria state work and be led by responsible people who have values and place values on the sanctity of the lives of Nigerians. We must now insist and ensure that any public office holders that abused his or her positions in any of the three departments of government must resign and then face the music. We must insist and demand that our institutions be headed by the very best of the best of Nigerians and not by the worse eleven in the field of governance whose only question is capacity to do evil.
Nigerians have suffered enough in the hands of heartless public officers who, in most cases, are not serving the interest of the Nigerian masses. Nigerians can not be in the mist of plenty resources and continue to suffer in poverty and penury. Nigerians must agree and insist that those who thwarted our democratic processes to impose them on us are not allowed henceforth. We must ensure and insist as a people that those who breached the law and stole ballots in electoral contests are not worshipped anymore. Enough of nonsense in Nigeria. We must ensure that uncultured and uncivilised behaviours of public servants are not allowed to continue in our land. We have a duty to insist on the right governance in Nigeria, and this we must do to enjoy a good life as a people and Nigerians.
