ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – French President Emmanuel Macron has condemned a reported Russian drone strike on a train station in Ukraine’s Dnipro, expressing solidarity with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people while calling for renewed international efforts to end the war.
Macron, in a statement published on his official X handle on Thursday, said he received the news of the incident with deep emotion, describing the reported casualties as heavy.
The French leader extended his condolences to Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine over the incident, reaffirming France’s solidarity with the country as it continues to face Russian military attacks.
The reported strike underscores the continuing dangers confronting Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure amid the prolonged conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Macron maintained that the international community must pursue a more comprehensive approach to ending hostilities, arguing that efforts should go beyond isolated or localised ceasefire arrangements that do not address the broader conflict.
He cited a recently negotiated local ceasefire in Olechky, stressing that such limited agreements, while potentially offering temporary relief, should not replace a broader initiative aimed at securing a just and lasting peace across Ukraine.
According to the French president, it was unacceptable that Russia continued to oppose proposals intended to halt the fighting while pursuing what he described as an escalatory approach that puts civilians at risk.
Precise Post recalls that the French leader’s remarks reflected his concern that continued military escalation and attacks affecting civilian populations could further undermine diplomatic efforts and prolong the humanitarian consequences of the war.
Macron argued that Russia’s continued rejection of proposals aimed at ending the war demonstrated the urgent need for stronger diplomatic engagement and a coordinated international response.
He urged France’s partners and the broader international community to intensify efforts to bring Moscow to the negotiating table, insisting that a durable settlement must guarantee peace rather than merely suspend hostilities in selected locations.
The French president’s appeal comes amid renewed diplomatic activity surrounding the conflict, including a temporary ceasefire agreement in Oleshky, in Ukraine’s southern Kherson region, intended to facilitate humanitarian assistance and the evacuation of civilians trapped in the Russian-occupied area.
However, the reported attack on Dnipro highlighted the fragility of such limited arrangements, as fighting and deadly strikes continued elsewhere despite the localised truce.
Ukrainian authorities reported that at least 13 people were killed in the drone strike on the Dnipro railway station, where a passenger train was preparing to depart for Zaporizhzhia. Several others were injured, according to initial reports from regional officials.
The attack has renewed concerns over the safety of civilians and the vulnerability of Ukraine’s railway network, which remains essential for passenger transportation and the movement of people amid the ongoing war.
Macron’s statement reinforces France’s position that ending the conflict requires sustained diplomatic pressure, international cooperation and a credible commitment to a comprehensive peace agreement.
His call for renewed efforts to bring Russia to negotiations also reflects the continuing challenge facing European leaders and their international partners as they seek a settlement that can end the bloodshed and provide lasting security for Ukraine.
The French president urged the international community to redouble its efforts towards achieving a just and lasting peace, stressing that the objective must extend beyond temporary ceasefires to a broader resolution of the conflict.
