Abuja (Precise Post) – Nile University men’s team has emerged champions of the first edition of the Life Camp Unity Cup Competition in Abuja.
Nile University fought tooth and nail to beat Nyanya Spikers 3-2 (25-23, 17-25, 25-22, 16-25, 15-12) in a tensed match in front of top dignitaries at Jabi Recreational Park on Sunday.
The coach of Nile University, Vincent Unogwu said losing the finals to Nyanya Spikers would have been a huge disappointment because the fans were rooting for his side.
He attributed victory to the commitment on the boy and self-discipline on and off the court.
Unogwu said, “I saw the victory coming because the composition of my team is 100% young and active. I was only tense at the end when I realized that we have more fans than can imagine and loosing the finals will be a huge disappointment to the spectators.
“They play to instructions and it pays. If you see the players as are well discipline and even when they are losing some sets they keep a good composure.”
He said Nile University are the current champions of Nigeria University Games (NUGA) as well as Champions of West Africa University Games (WAUG).
“They are the current NUGA champions and also the West African University Games champions. We are bracing up for the next edition of the same games so as to retain our position.
“Nile University gave eight volleyball players full tuition fees scholarship. They have plan to increase it as time progresses; they have Scholarship Athletes in other sports as well,” he added.
