ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has constituted a three-member committee to investigate alleged financial impropriety surrounding the receipt, management and disbursement of a ₦100 million gift from the Imo State Government to the association’s Owerri Branch.

Badejo-Okusanya announced the development in a statement published on her X handle on Thursday, October 15, 2026, following concerns raised by members of the branch and a requisition by 183 members for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM).

The committee comprises the NBA General Secretary, Afam Okeke; Third Vice-President, Iniobong Irene Pepple; and Treasurer, Esther Jimoh.

According to the NBA president, the committee is mandated to examine relevant financial records, receive representations from persons concerned and submit its findings and recommendations to her on or before October 30, 2026.

The committee is also expected to attend the Extraordinary General MeetingNBA scheduled for Thursday, October 15, at 2:00 p.m. as the president’s representatives to observe proceedings and support an orderly meeting.

Badejo-Okusanya, however, stressed that the constitution of the committee should not be interpreted as a finding of wrongdoing against any individual.
She assured that everyone whose conduct might be questioned would be given a fair opportunity to respond to the allegations.

The NBA president also directed that all relevant financial records be preserved and made available to facilitate a comprehensive examination of the matter.

Reaffirming her commitment to accountability and due process, Badejo-Okusanya said concerns raised by members must be addressed through a fair, transparent and orderly process.

“Accountability must go hand in hand with due process, and our response must sustain members’ confidence in the Association,” she stated.

The investigation comes amid concerns within the NBA Owerri Branch over the handling of the ₦100 million gift, with the extraordinary meeting expected to provide a forum for members to address issues surrounding the matter.

Precise Post recalls that the committee’s findings and recommendations are expected to guide further action by the NBA leadership.
