OSOGBO- The Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Osun Chapter, has expressed concerns over low Value Added Tax (VAT) performance in the state despite increased monthly allocation from the Federal Government.
Mr Adewale Adebayo, the state chairman of APM, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Osogbo.
Adebayo said the fiscal low performance of the state recently revealed by Statisense for the first quarter of 2025 was worrisome.
He said that Osun VAT performance was the lowest in South-West despite receiving higher allocations from the Federal Government compared with other states.
“The disparity between what the state contributes and what it receives is not only alarming but underscore lack of productivity and innovation in economic governance.
“This shows over reliance on federal allocations while contributing the least to central revenue pool,” Adebayo said.
He advised the government to reshape its economic policies and stimulate local productivity by supporting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME), and improving the ease of doing business.
Adebayo said: “An internal audit of all state-driven revenue-generating activities to access the gaps, leakages and underperformance should be addressed to ensure Osun becomes a net contributor.” (NAN)
