President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has urged Nigerian Christians to embrace prayer, repentance, humility, and sober reflection as they begin the Lenten season with the observance of Ash Wednesday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio described the period as a solemn time for spiritual renewal, introspection, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
“As we dust ourselves with ashes, let us remember our mortality and the need for humility and repentance,” the Senate President said. “May this season be a time for introspection, forgiveness, and reconciliation, strengthening our bond with God and with one another.”
Akpabio also reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to enacting laws that promote unity, peace, and national cohesion. According to him, legislators will continue to pursue policies and legislation that foster harmony and mutual understanding among Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic background.
“As Christians around the world observe Ash Wednesday, on behalf of my family, constituents, the Senate and the 10th National Assembly, I extend warm greetings and blessings to all,” he added.
He further prayed for divine guidance and blessings throughout the Lenten season, urging Christians to remain steadfast in faith and good works.
“May God bless and guide us all on this Ash Wednesday and throughout the Lenten season,” Akpabio said.
