Renowned Nigerian comedian AY Makun has spoken out in defense of music icon 2Baba following the singer’s recent public apology to his partner, children, and fans. The apology came after 2Baba’s controversial remarks suggesting that men are not naturally wired for monogamy, which sparked widespread debate online.
Taking to social media, AY urged the public to approach such situations with compassion and understanding, rather than judgment. He emphasized that public figures, despite their fame, are human and face immense emotional pressure, often without support.
“It’s always easy to cast the first stone at the supposed offender,” AY wrote. “No one pauses to ask the most human question: ‘Are you okay?’ And even when they do, it’s rarely without an agenda. No one really cares.”
The comedian described 2Baba as a man under duress taking accountability, not because he’s perfect, but because he’s human. He went on to critique societal expectations that require men to suppress vulnerability and endure emotional pain in silence.
“Whether we’re right or wrong, we’re told to ‘man up.’ Our vulnerability doesn’t protect us—it exposes us,” AY stated. “Na who them catch na him be thief.”
In his caption, AY also took a satirical jab at societal priorities, suggesting that entertainers be rewarded for distracting the public from more pressing national issues.
“I believe the government should start awarding entertainers special bonuses for consistently helping shift Nigerians’ attention from issues that actually matter. Dey play!”
His statement has resonated with many, sparking renewed conversations about mental health, masculinity, and emotional expression, particularly among men in the public eye.
