Manchester United shocked Premier League leaders Arsenal with a dramatic 3–2 comeback victory at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, denting the Gunners’ title ambitions.
United claimed their first league win away at Arsenal since December 2017, with Matheus Cunha scoring a stunning late winner in a pulsating contest.
Arsenal made a strong start and took the lead in the 29th minute when Lisandro Martinez turned the ball into his own net under pressure, capping a dominant spell by the hosts.
United responded before the break as Bryan Mbeumo capitalised on a loose back pass, rounding David Raya before calmly finishing to make it 1–1.
The visitors went ahead early in the second half through Patrick Dorgu, whose long-range strike beat Raya after a VAR check ruled out Arsenal appeals for handball in the build-up.
Mikel Arteta’s side kept pushing and were rewarded in the 84th minute when Mikel Merino reacted quickest from close range after United goalkeeper Lammens failed to deal with Bukayo Saka’s corner.
But United had the final word. Just three minutes later, Cunha struck from distance with a powerful effort that flew past Raya to secure a memorable win.
The result ended Arsenal’s 13-game unbeaten run in all competitions and marked their first home defeat since May. Although they remain top of the table, their lead has been cut to four points after wins for Manchester City and Aston Villa.
For Manchester United, it was another statement result under interim manager Michael Carrick. Having beaten Manchester City last weekend, United have now taken victories over the league’s top two sides in successive matches, climbing to fourth place.
