ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa has said that president Bola Tinubu-led federal government has unveiled a transformative initiative aimed at rebuilding the nation’s education system: the HOPE for Quality Basic Education for All (HOPE-EDU) Program. With a substantial $552.18 million secured through a partnership with the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education.
According to him, the program promises to reshape the educational landscape for millions of children across the country.
The Minister, who stated this on Sunday when he took to his official X account, hinted that the HOPE-EDU initiative is designed as a new model of governance, incorporating performance-based financing, equity, and measurable results at its core. Adding that it aims to directly enhance learning outcomes, bridge access gaps, and strengthen Nigeria’s school systems. Over 29 million children, 500,000 teachers, and more than 65,000 public schools will benefit from the program.
Addressing the critical issues plaguing Nigeria’s education sector, Dr Alausa said HOPE-EDU focuses on improving learning for students, providing resources to underfunded classrooms, and supporting teachers who have long been underserved. By linking funding to tangible progress, the program empowers state governments to take charge of delivery while engaging communities, parents, and local leaders as key stakeholders in the process.
The Minister further highlighted that under the leadership of President Tinubu, the administration has demonstrated a firm commitment to education, emphasizing that it is not just a promise but a priority. The HOPE-EDU program aligns with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda and national objectives to ensure that no child is left behind, Dr. Alausa said.
He continued; “The launch of this program marks a significant turning point for public education in Nigeria. With transparency, accountability, and sustainability at its heart, HOPE-EDU is set to redefine the future of education in the country.”
He extended gratitude to the technical teams, the Universal Basic Education Commission, state education partners, and the global allies at the World Bank and GPE who have made this ambitious project a reality. Stressing that Nigeria is now poised to deliver lasting change for its children, teachers, and the nation’s future.
