The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which will be conducted across 811 designated centres in Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This development was confirmed by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement issued following the commission’s regular meeting in Abuja.
CVR Schedule & Process
According to Olumekun, the CVR will officially resume on August 18, 2025, with online pre-registration available via the commission’s platform. In-person registration will begin on August 25, 2025, and both processes will run concurrently until August 30, 2026.
“The two processes will continue simultaneously for a year until August 30,” Olumekun stated.
Registration will be open Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at INEC offices in all 774 local government areas, state headquarters, and the FCT, excluding public holidays.

Additionally, INEC has published a 38-page document detailing the addresses of all 811 registration centres, now available on its official website.
Dedicated helpdesk phone numbers have also been set up for each state to assist registrants with inquiries.
Registration Guidelines & Resources
INEC confirmed that the CVR procedures remain unchanged from the 2022 process. Educational resources, including video guides and detailed instructions, will be released next week to help citizens navigate both the online and in-person registration processes effectively.
Spike in Political Party Registration Requests
In a separate update, Olumekun disclosed that INEC has received eight new letters of intent from groups seeking to register as political parties, increasing the total number of pending applications to 151.
The applications, which include names, acronyms, logos, addresses, and interim leadership, have been uploaded to the commission’s website and official digital platforms.
INEC has already activated its online portal for party registration and is currently shortlisting associations that meet preliminary requirements. The next phase of the screening process will proceed after the 16 scheduled bye-elections across 12 states on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
