Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has clarified the true meaning of “stomach infrastructure”, stressing that it is about creating sustainable opportunities and services to improve the quality of life for citizens—not distributing temporary handouts.
Speaking during a press conference in Awka on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, to mark Anambra’s 34th anniversary, the governor emphasized that real development requires investments in agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation.
“Stomach infrastructure is not about handing out money or political favors,” Soludo stated.
“It’s about guaranteeing access to essential services that secure dignity, empower households, and provide a lasting path out of poverty.”
What Soludo’s Administration Has Done
Governor Soludo highlighted key achievements under his leadership:
Agriculture: Over 2.6 million palm and coconut seedlings distributed to 180,000 households.
Education: Free learning in public schools, plus the recruitment of 8,115 teachers.
Healthcare: Free antenatal and delivery services, alongside the hiring of 1,000+ health workers.
Welfare: Implementation of an N82,000 minimum wage and clearance of outstanding pension arrears.
Youth Empowerment: More than 5,000 young people empowered, with 8,000 more set to graduate soon.
Infrastructure: 600 km of roads commissioned, with a total of 800 km planned.
Building a Values-Driven State
According to Soludo, deploying public resources to create lasting value is far more impactful than sharing cash or short-term palliatives. He noted that Anambra’s growth rests on the principles of hard work, integrity, and innovation.
He also cited progress in security, governance reforms, and urban renewal, calling on residents to actively support state policies.
“Together, let’s build the Anambra of our dreams,” the governor urged.
“We will continue to deliver the dividends of democracy with transparency, accountability, and dedication.”
As Anambra celebrates 34 years of statehood—founded on August 27, 1991, under General Ibrahim Babangida’s administration—Governor Soludo reaffirmed his commitment to driving inclusive and sustainable development.
