ICAN To Partner Enugu Govt On Budgetary Control

Enugu – The Enugu District and Society (EDS), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), has pledged to partner with the Enugu State Government to facilitate seamless budgeting and budgetary control.

The new Chairman of the EDS-ICAN, Mr Emmanuel Nnamani, made the pledge on Saturday in Enugu at his investiture to mark the start of his tenure.

The 2021/2022 Executive Committee of the EDS-ICAN was also inaugurated during the ceremony.

Nnamani noted that the proposed partnership was part of the state chapter’s projections and strategies to make the ICAN brand visible in line with the vision of the president of the Institute.

He said, “We have reached out to the Enugu State Government and proposed to offer our skills in facilitating seamless budgeting and budgetary control.

“We intend to work with the Government to ensure that budgets are not mere compliance with the law but a critical working plan to deliver on its economic and social objectives.

“Our Inter-Governmental Committee is already engaging with relevant government offices for this immense value addition to governance.”

The new chairman also noted that the Institute had noticed a disconnect between the profession and the business community in the state.

To redress this, he said that the body was taking steps for reconnection through engagement with bodies such as the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Enugu Chamber Of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA).

In her address, the National President of ICAN, Mrs Comfort Eyitayo, assured the new executives of the support of the national leadership.

Eyitayo, who was represented by the EDS District Coordinator, Alhaja Titilola Akibayo, noted that professionals in the industry were experiencing unprecedented times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The president, however, stated her confidence in the new team to build on the foundation laid by the outgone leadership.

The investiture ceremony was graced by some professionals including the Rector of the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu State, Prof. Austin Nweze; and the Regional Control Manager, South, First Bank PLC, Mr Anthony Ude, among others. (NAN).
