ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Presidency has reacted to the life presidency claim by the former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El’rufai, saying he needs reality checks as plot against President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 has crumbled.
The Special Adviser (Information and Strategy) to the President, Bayo Onanuga who disclosed this on his verified X handle on Monday said El-Rufai appears to be losing his political grip, as he descends into a frenzy of baseless accusations and wild speculation about President Tinubu.
“In a desperate bid to discredit the President, El-Rufai has reportedly floated outrageous claims, including the absurd suggestion that Tinubu plans to become a “life president” beyond 2027,” Onanuga said.
The president’s Aide dismissed these remarks as hallucinatory, calling them a sign of panic from a man watching his influence evaporate.
He said that El-Rufai and his allies in a newly embraced political movement, are rattled by the growing momentum behind Tinubu’s likely re-election bid in 2027. Their plans to derail it are faltering. if not already dead in the water.
The final nail came last Friday, when President Tinubu received a thunderous welcome during his visit to Kaduna. The warm reception sent shockwaves through El-Rufai’s camp, exposing the gaping hole in his narrative that the North had turned its back on the President, he added.
Instead of acknowledging the President’s enduring support base, El-Rufai has doubled down on conspiracies, pushing unfounded stories that border on political fiction.
“It’s time for Governor Uba Sani to intervene,” one political insider noted. “His predecessor seems to be slipping into dangerous delusions. Professional counselling may now be necessary.”
President Tinubu, a long-standing democrat, has repeatedly affirmed his commitment to constitutional limits. Insiders say he has no intention of remaining in office beyond May 28, 2031 — the constitutional end of a second term, should he be re-elected.
As the 2027 election season looms, El-Rufai’s erratic behavior is being viewed as a cautionary tale: how far a fading political figure may go when relevance begins to fade.
