ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the forthcoming 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has urged his supporters to remain committed to the democratic process and ensure that their votes are protected from the polling units to the final declaration of results.
Obi made the call in a statement posted on his official X handle on Sunday while recounting his engagements with party supporters and stakeholders across parts of Kogi, Benue and Enugu states.
The former Anambra State governor said his engagements were focused on understanding the concerns of Nigerians and reaffirming his commitment to addressing some of the country’s major challenges, including insecurity, poor healthcare, inadequate education, unemployment and poverty.
According to him, he visited Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, where he met with stakeholders and party faithful alongside the party’s Kogi East Senatorial candidate, High Chief Peter Ameh.
Obi assured the supporters that issues affecting their welfare would remain central to his political efforts, while urging them to participate actively in the democratic process.
He said: “We urged our supporters to remain dedicated to the democratic process, turn out in large numbers to vote, and, above all, safeguard and defend their votes from the polling unit through the final declaration of results.”
Obi also disclosed that he made brief stops at Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State and Obollo Afor in Enugu State, where he interacted with residents and traders operating along the routes.
He said the engagements provided an opportunity to listen to the concerns of the people and assure them of his commitment to building a government that would recognise their challenges, prioritise their welfare and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
According to Obi, the concerns expressed by Nigerians across the communities visited were largely similar, particularly the demand for security, employment opportunities for young people, functional hospitals and schools, as well as access to the resources required to live decent and dignified lives.
“These are not excessive demands. They represent the basic expectations citizens hold of a government dedicated to their welfare,” he stated.
The former presidential candidate subsequently travelled to Okpo in Olamaboro Local Government Area, Kogi State, where he attended the 65th birthday celebration of Evangelist Sunday Oguche.
Obi described Oguche as not only a preacher of the Gospel but also a community builder who had devoted himself to serving God and contributing positively to the lives of his people.
He prayed for the celebrant, wishing him sound health, strength and many more productive years in the service of God.
Obi later paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Igwe Willy Ezugwu, Eze Ka Eze I of Ideke Land and Eze Ogbozalla III of Opi Kingdom in Nsukka, Enugu State.
He described the traditional ruler as a patriotic Nigerian with a strong belief in the future of the country, expressing appreciation for his counsel, encouragement, prayers and royal blessings.
Obi maintained that his political message remained centred on the possibility of transforming Nigeria and making government responsive to the needs of its citizens.
“As we move forward on this journey, our message remains unequivocal: Nigeria can succeed, and government can be made to serve its people, Obi added.
