The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a one-month-old baby girl allegedly sold for N2 million and arrested two suspects, including the baby’s mother and the owner of the hospital where she was delivered.
The incident happened in Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan.
The suspects are 23-year-old Cecilia Amos, the baby’s mother, and 40-year-old Dr Adeleke Ebenezer, owner of Ebepraise Health Centre, Ido.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
According to the PPRO, the case was reported on October 15, 2026, at about 6pm by one Mary Amos of Ogunwade area, Ido, who said her daughter gave birth to a baby girl on September 6, 2026, at Ebepraise Health Centre.
Mary told the police that her daughter disappeared with the baby about seven days after delivery and could not give a satisfactory account of the child’s whereabouts, raising suspicion that the baby had been sold.
Ayanlade said operatives arrested Cecilia for questioning, and she confessed that Ebenezer and another suspect, Hassan Oludunni, lured her into the arrangement and facilitated the sale to one Odunayo Folawewo.
Investigation revealed that the baby was sold for N2m, with Cecilia receiving N1m, while Ebenezer and Oludunni allegedly shared N500,000 each.
Following the investigation, the baby was rescued and Ebenezer was arrested, while efforts are ongoing to arrest Folawewo and Oludunni.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting children and vulnerable persons and urged the public to report suspected child trafficking cases.
