Musawa, like several other local councils in Katsina, has been severely affected by banditry, terrorism, kidnappings, and cattle rustling. Hundreds of lives have been lost, while thousands have been abducted for ransom.
Seventy-five Islamic scholars have been engaged by Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State to offer special prayers for divine intervention in tackling terrorism and related security challenges in the region.
The Executive Chairman of Musawa LGA, Dr. Habib Abdulkadir, disclosed this in an interview with journalists, emphasising that the initiative aims to complement ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability.
Musawa, like several other local councils in Katsina, has been severely affected by banditry, terrorism, kidnappings, and cattle rustling. Hundreds of lives have been lost, while thousands have been abducted for ransom.
Other notably affected areas include Matazau, Jibia, Safana, Batsari, Batagrawa, Faskari, Kankara, Malumfashi, Funtua, and Bakori, particularly in communities close to forest reserves that serve as hideouts for criminals.
While security efforts have yielded progress in some parts of the state, attacks continue to persist in vulnerable communities, prompting local authorities to explore additional measures, including spiritual intervention.
Dr. Abdulkadir explained that the 75 Islamic scholars, drawn from various sects, are dedicated to making continuous supplications for an end to the crisis.
The local government spends over N4 million monthly on the prayer initiative, covering sponsorship and allowances for the scholars.
According to him, the prayers have already started yielding positive results, as security conditions in some affected communities have improved, allowing residents to sleep more peacefully.
The chairman commended the Federal and Katsina State governments for their ongoing efforts in the fight against terrorism.
He reassured residents of the local council’s unwavering commitment to supporting security measures and ensuring the safety of its people.
