National Assembly to Hold Special Joint Sitting for 2025 Democracy Day

ABUJA (PRECISE POST ) – The House of Representatives will join the Senate in a Special Joint Sitting of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 12, 2025, to mark this year’s Democracy Day.

The event, confirmed via an internal memo from the Clerk of the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, will begin at 11:00 AM in the House Chamber at the National Assembly Complex. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is expected to arrive by noon as the Special Guest of Honour and deliver a Presidential Address.

This was contained in a statement signed by the House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr made available to Precise Post in Abuja on Sunday.

According to the statement, this year’s celebration, themed “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development,” will feature goodwill messages from past National Assembly leaders and the conferment of National Honours on select legislators.

The Joint Sitting highlights Nigeria’s 26 years of uninterrupted democracy and reaffirms the legislature’s role in strengthening democratic governance. The House encourages Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect and recommit to national unity and development.
