ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –   The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has ratified and endorsed the outcome of its nationwide primary elections while approving plans to introduce electronic voting in future party congresses and primaries as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking after the party’s second NEC meeting on Thursday, former Bayelsa State Governor and NDC leader, Seriake Dickson, said the gathering brought together the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, members of the National Working Committee, state chairmen, party leaders, and stakeholders from across the country.

According to Dickson, the meeting reviewed the party’s progress, assessed the outcome of the recently concluded primaries, and outlined strategies for strengthening the party’s national structure ahead of the next general elections.

He commended Obi and Kwankwaso for their leadership and commitment throughout the party’s internal processes and also praised governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly aspirants, as well as party supporters who participated in the primaries and NEC meeting.

The NEC, after reviewing reports from across the federation, formally endorsed the results of the primary elections and applauded electoral committees, screening and appeal panels, party officials, volunteers, aspirants, candidates, and supporters for ensuring a successful exercise.

Dickson described the achievements recorded by the party as remarkable for a relatively young political organisation.

While acknowledging that some challenges and disagreements emerged during the primaries in certain locations, he said the NEC reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, transparency, fairness, and inclusion.

The committee also resolved to intensify reconciliation efforts, consultations, and stakeholder engagement nationwide, urging all aspirants and party members to remain actively involved in building the party.

As part of efforts to deepen transparency and participation, the NEC approved plans to deploy electronic voting in future congresses and primary elections. It also directed the strengthening of the party’s digital membership registration and data management systems.

Seriake Dicksonickson said the party believes technology should play a central role in enhancing confidence in democratic processes and improving institutional efficiency.

The NEC further resolved to expand grassroots mobilisation and membership drives across the country while strengthening party structures at ward, local government, state, zonal, and national levels.

The committee also reviewed developments in the nation’s electoral environment, including provisions of the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by Independent National Electoral Commission, reaffirming the party’s commitment to pursuing legal and constitutional means in defence of electoral justice, democratic participation, and a level playing field.

According to Dickson, the meeting ended on a note of optimism and unity, with party leaders expressing confidence in the NDC’s prospects and reaffirming their commitment to good governance, national development, and democratic renewal ahead of the 2027 elections.
