UMUAHIA (PRECISE POST) – Abia State Governor Alex Otti on Friday joined the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, in an inspection tour of the ongoing reconstruction of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, pledging faster and higher-quality delivery of the strategic highway.
Precise Post recalls that the duo inspected several sections of the project, meeting directly with contractors and urging them to quicken their pace.
Disclosing this on his X handle on Saturday, Governor Otti said the Minister “did not mince words” in stressing his expectations, particularly for firms handling critical stretches of the expressway.
Otti expressed gratitude to Umahi for commending his administration’s infrastructure drive and for the Federal Government’s partnership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He noted that the collaboration has already produced key road interventions and approvals in Abia State, including:
- Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road (flagged off last week)
- Owerrinta–Umuikaa dualization (ongoing)
- Onuimo–Tower Road dualization (ongoing)
- Ohafia–Arochukwu Road (ongoing)
- Omenuko Bridge (recently completed)
“These projects are lifelines for commerce, mobility, and development,” Otti said, recalling that citizens had suffered for years due to the deplorable state of major federal routes. “That is why we are fully invested in ensuring this expressway, and others like it, are completed to the highest standard.”
The governor also commended the Minister for reversing the proposed termination of the CCECC contract on the expressway after appeals from the state. “With renewed commitment from the contractors, we expect visible progress in the coming weeks,” he assured.
Reiterating his non-partisan approach to governance, Otti added: “Once elections are over, governance must take the front seat. Development knows no party lines. We are building bridges of progress with the Federal Government and our sister states to ensure no community is left behind.”
He also thanked the people of Abia, particularly residents of Aba, for their warm reception during the visit. “Your belief in our shared vision fuels our determination every single day,” Otti said. “May God continue to bless you all.”
