The clip, widely circulated across platforms, captures the seasoned actor, best known for his role in the blockbuster movie ‘Owo Blow,’ calling out to passengers and ushering them into his bus.
Afolabi’s transportation business was first brought to light last year during an interview with fellow actor Kunle Afod.
At the time, Afolabi revealed that he had ventured into driving a bus to sustain himself while awaiting acting roles
Afod explained that the bus was given to the actor to operate on a return basis, and during a second visit, he appealed to the public to help Afolabi acquire his own bus and also fund the installation of electricity in his home.
“He is only doing a job to feed himself per day. It is difficult for an elderly person to do strenuous work,” Afod said, adding that he had also gifted the actor N410,000 to ease his situation.
“I like the way he is working. I wish he were the owner of the bus he is driving. He has not finished paying for it.”
Afolabi made it clear that he refused to remain idle while waiting for acting jobs.
“One has to wake up with hope. But being hopeful does not mean you should sit around doing nothing. I prefer to work because I never know when the next acting role will come,” he stated.
The viral video has since prompted mixed reactions online, with a section of social media users criticising producers who, they claimed, no longer cast veteran actors like Afolabi. Others lamented the lack of a structured support system for Nollywood’s ageing talents.
The renewed conversation comes shortly after actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known as Papa Ajasco, publicly opened up about his own financial struggles despite his fame and decades-long contribution to the industry.
Afolabi first rose to prominence with his role as Fatai, a member of a robbery gang, in Tade Ogidan’s 1996 classic ‘Owo Blow’.
Over the years, he has appeared in numerous films, including ‘Luwo Gbagida,’ ‘Lahira,’ and ‘Children of Mud’.
