The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has issued a strong reminder to Christians: wealth and outward appearance have no eternal value if pursued at the expense of spiritual growth.
Speaking at the 73rd Annual RCCG Convention at Redemption Camp in Mowe, Ogun State, Pastor Adeboye addressed thousands of worshippers under the convention theme, “The Overcomers.” He emphasized the need for believers to live with spiritual focus and resist the growing temptation of materialism and vanity in today’s world.
“If you’re chasing wealth while neglecting your soul, that’s foolishness,” he said.
“When you die, how much of it will go with you?”
While affirming that God does not oppose prosperity, Pastor Adeboye stressed that wealth must not be acquired or idolized at the cost of righteousness and spiritual discipline.
“God is not against enjoyment,” he noted.
“But the body you pamper, polish, and dress up will one day return to dust. It is your spirit that matters — that’s what will stand before God.”
Pastor Adeboye further challenged Christians to reject carnal desires and stay spiritually alert, declaring that the journey of an overcomer demands discipline and unwavering faith.
“Becoming a champion is hard. Staying a champion is even harder — because others will always aim for your crown,” he warned.
He likened life to a constant battle between the flesh and the spirit, reminding believers that they are not alone in their struggles.
“Life is war. It’s made up of battles. But rejoice — the Holy Spirit, God Almighty Himself, lives in you. And He is greater than anything you’ll face.”
Highlighting the dual nature of human existence, Pastor Adeboye concluded:
“You are both dust and spirit. The flesh pulls you down, but the Spirit of God lifts you up. To live as an overcomer, choose the Spirit.”
The message served as a spiritual wake-up call to Christians, urging them to prioritize eternal values over fleeting pleasures and to stay rooted in the principles of faith, discipline, and purpose.
