Police arrest guard over alleged theft of employer’s motor spare parts in Ogun

ABEOKUTA – The Police Command in Ogun has arrested a 32-year-old security guard for allegedly stealing his employer’s motor parts.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Babaseyi said the suspect was apprehended following a report lodged by the manager of the affected company at Ita-Asu Village, Owode-Egba.

According to the police, the report was received on Saturday at about 6:00 p.m. after operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) intercepted the suspect at the Sagamu interchange area.

Babaseyi said that the suspect was intercepted during a stop and search by a police patrol team.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that several motor spare parts suspected to have been removed unlawfully from the company’s premises were recovered from the suspect.

“The recovered items include four air controls, two air boosters, two engine seats and two fuel pumps, all identified as property of the company,” he said.

The police spokesperson said the suspect allegedly confessed to the theft during interrogation, while detectives visited the scene for further investigation and documentation.

According to him, the recovered items have been secured as exhibits pending the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the vigilance of the operatives the QRS and officers of the Owode-Egba Division.

Ojajuni said the coordinated efforts of the security operatives led to the recovery of the stolen property and the arrest of the suspect.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting businesses, critical assets and residents through intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention measures.

The CP urged employers and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.(NAN)
