2024 Budget: Lawan assures of increased funding for DSA

By Chris Udochukwu Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Ahmad Lawan, has assured that the Defence Space Administration will be given adequate funding in the 2024 budget to enable the administration discharge its mandate optimally. Lawan made this known, on Thursday, when the Defence Space Administration appeared before the Senate Committee on Defence to defend its budget estimates for the 2024 fiscal year. He added that improved funding for the DSA became imperative in view of the evolving security challenges confronting the nation. Emenike launches United Airlines inagural flight to Nigeria

Naira Marley’s trial adjourned for 78 days

A Federal High Court in Lagos Tuesday adjourned the trial of a popular musician, Azeez Fashola, a.k.a Naira Marley till February 16, 2021, or 78 days. Justice Nicholas Oweibo fixed the date following the absence of an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) witness, Mr Augustine Anosike, which stalled the resumption of Marley’s trial for alleged cybercrime. Anosike, a forensic analyst, is testifying as a second prosecution witness in the case. Marley, who was arrested by the EFCC on May 14, 2019, has been standing trial on an 11-count charge bothering on the offence. According to the EFCC, the defendant committed the offences on different dates between November 26, 2018, and December 11, 2018, as well as May 10, 2019. The EFCC claimed that some of the credit cards discovered in Marley’s residence bore the fictitious names Nicole Louise Malyon and Timea Fedorne Tatar. These, the agency alleged, were used in furtherance of internet scams. No budget for Sovereign Wealth Fund in 2022 – Reps

The House of Representatives said on Tuesday there will be no budgetary allocation to the Nigeria Sovereign Wealth Fund from Federation Account for the 2022 fiscal year. Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, James Faleke who made the position of the House known at the budget defence of the Ministry of Finance and its agencies, said the agency has failed to present its budget to the Parliament for consideration since it was created. He said the Sovereign Wealth Fund has continued to rely on its enabling law, which states that the Board of the agency will approve its budget. He said whether the law was made inadvertently, it cannot override the Constitution, which gives the power of appropriation to the Parliament. He said the House will write to the office of the Accountant General of the Federation to ensure that no money is disbursed to the agency in the 2022 budget since nothing has been approved for them by the Parliament. 2023 Election: INEC Announces Resumption Of Voter Registration, Earmarks N1billion
