ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – A frontline gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State Chief David Sabo Kente has warned that voting out President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming general elections will be a huge and regrettable mistake by Nigerians.
Kente stated this in Jalingo on Thursday night while addressing the crowd that welcomed him to the State capital after successfully submitting his expression of interest and Nomination forms at the party Secretariat in Abuja.
He said that the President has introduced certain economic policies that undoubtedly have brought hardship upon the people for the moment but promise to bring lasting stability to the system and he should be reelected to push the policies to the point that the positive results will manifest.
Chief Kente noted that “all economic theories that have been tired in Nigeria failed woefully. Policies that transformed other clans drastically don’t hold waters here. I am aware that there is increased hardship as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy and floating of Naira.
“I can tell you that these policies, like every other policy of this administration, is not aimed at punishing the people. Rather, it is a deliberate effort to make things right after decades of economic shenanigan. Gradually, we are beginning to see the results. If it were not for the crisis in the Middle East, the prices of fuel had already started dropping. That trend will continue once the situation in the Middle East rights itself.
“We are also witnessing a gradual appreciation of the Naira against the Dollar. That will also continue so long as these policies are sustained. And so I can tell you that the hardship is only going to be for a while. But look at the bright side of it. There has been serious attention given to infrastructural development across the country. Here in Taraba, you are aware that the contractor handling the Ibi bridge has been mobilised back to site. That is a key project, among several others.
“They say government is a continuity but unfortunately that is not always the case in Nigeria. If we now make the mistake of voting a new person to power, there will be problem because they will likely introduce new policies that may take even longer before we would start getting results. It will be a huge mistake I can tell you. That is why I’ve consistently urged our people to complete their E-registration and and have their membership as well as voters cards and to vote massively for the President in the forthcoming general elections”.
Chief Kente, who hails from the same local government area as the incumbent governor Agbu Kefas said that he was compelled to join the race because of overwhelming pressure from people across the State who are disappointed at the governor’s”extremely poor performance and clear lack of administrative direction” and promised to serve only for a single term, if elected so that power will rotate to the other zones.
“We are having negative development in Taraba State. We are going backwards instead of growing and moving forward. I worked for the emergence of Governor Agbu Kefas even when I was in a different political party, but we are all disappointed at his performance. Taraba needs better and have overwhelmingly called on me to serve because they have confidence in my manifest capability.
“I can tell you that I am not very comfortable with the way the party is handling certain issues already but I am not deterred. I know that I have have a fair chance to contest and win. I know that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a Democrat and he wants the right thing done. We also have an intelligent party chairman. And so I can assure you that the right thing must be done. I don’t think any of them will want the APC in Taraba State to implode to shreds”.
