written by Arabella Zikora
A Nigerian man, identified as Johnson, has been arrested in Delhi for allegedly duping an Indian woman from Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, of ₹15.72 lakh (approximately N9.1 million) through a fraudulent marriage proposal.
According to the Rajnandgaon Police, the accused created a fake profile on a matrimonial website, where he connected with the victim.
Posing as a UK-based businessman planning to expand his business in India, Johnson gained the victim’s trust.
He later contacted the woman through an associate, claiming he was stranded at Delhi airport and urgently needed money to exchange his UK currency. Persuaded by his plea, the woman transferred the funds.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma revealed that Johnson, with the help of an accomplice, used the situation to blackmail and defraud the victim.
After the money was sent, Johnson cut off all communication, leaving the victim unable to reach him.
Realizing she had been scammed, the woman reported the incident to the Dongargarh Police cyber cell, which launched an investigation.
Using digital traces, police located Johnson in Delhi and apprehended him during a raid on his residence.
Authorities discovered that Johnson had overstayed his visa and passport validity. Four mobile phones, a laptop, and other incriminating evidence were recovered during the arrest, and his bank account has been frozen.
“We started an investigation on the complaint of the applicant. With the help of a cyber cell, it was found that the accused lives in Delhi. Our team raided his Delhi accommodation and arrested him.
“Accused Johnson is a resident of Nigeria. He has cheated on many girls so far. We are trying to gather further information through interrogation,” said ASP Sharma.
The police have described Johnson, who is around 40 years old, as a serial fraudster operating across multiple regions.
Further investigations are underway to determine the extent of his activities and track down his accomplices.

BWARI- A Petitioner, Mrs Chiwendu Nwadi has alleged that her husband, Emeka Nwadi deliberately poisoned her drink which led to losing her pregnancy.
She made the allegation in a petition filed by her lawyer, Mr Moses Ibe, before a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Customary Court sitting in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council.
The petitioner is seeking, among others, the dissolution of her 13 years marriage with her husband on the ground that “the union has broken down irretrievably”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the petition, has been fixed for further mention on Nov. 5, because of the absence of the respondent.(the husband)
According to the petitioner, the union, consummated in 2011 under the Native Law and Custom, as well as exchange of marital vows in a Church, has produced three children, ages, 12, 11 and two.
She alleged that the husband, “is a man of unimaginable violence and cruelty, fetish, a serial wife beater and adulterer’’.
“After I had my second child, the Respondent said he was no longer interested in having other children. My mother in-law, however, opposed that decision and continued to put pressure on us to have other children.
“Seven years down the lane, I became pregnant. When I informed my husband about it, he poisoned my drink, which made me to lose that pregnancy.
She continued: “In 2021, I became pregnant again, but kept it to myself because of my last experience.
“When the pregnancy was 2 months, it was during the COVID 19 and my husband’s brother Mr, Uche Nwadi, arranged for the whole family to be vaccinated. I had to excuse myself from the vaccination, by informing my husband that I was pregnant.
“When my husband saw the result of the test, he denied being responsible for the pregnancy and accused me of adultery.
“He sent me out of my matrimonial home to my parent’s house. He parked out my belongings, thereafter, and dumped them in our house’’, She said.
The petitioner said she was in her parent’s house for three months, when some elders from the husband’s village got information about the incident, and said the action they took was against Igbo tradition.
She said after the elders had admonished her husband’s family against the action, he sent his relatives to come to her family house for atonement.
The petitioner said the case was resolved on the agreement that a DNA would be conducted after she must have given birth.
She said after given birth, the child is “a carbon copy’’ of the husband, and that was the last she heard of DNA.
“My husband is always in the habit of denying my pregnancies, and will always threaten to conduct DNA. But, since the children always look like him, he then accepts them as his,’’ she said.
The petitioner alleged that her husband is “a chronic womaniser who keep late nights and had turned her to a punching bag.
The petitioner recalled that on Sept. 17, the husband told her that he had noticed that things were not working out well for him any longer.
“He told me he had visited about five different spiritualists who informed him that my mother and I were responsible for his travails.
“He said that we took his photograph to Umudike in Abia State, where his destiny is tied down. He equally accused me of adultery and lesbianism,” she said
She said on Sept. 19, while she was in her shop at Dutse Central Market, Abuja, her husband in company of some men came to chase her out, parked all her goods, locked up the shop with another key and threatened to kill her if she came back to the house.
“I have no access to my children and made several attempts to see them at their school, Amazing Kids Academy, Kubwa, Abuja to no avail.
“The school management told me my husband served them a court order, restraining me from having any communication with my children
The Petitioner said that about a week after she was thrown out, the husband brought in a 24-year old lady who now occupied the house, and had been mal-treating her children.
“The welfare of my three children, has deteriorated and attempts to resolve the issue, including my parents leading a delegation to my husband’s brother, failed.
“I have also suffered psychological, emotional and physical abuses while the marriage lasted and still suffers same trauma because my children are still in the custody of my husband,’’ she said.
The petitioner, therefore, urged the court to dissolve the marriage, grant custody of the three children to her and restrain the husband from using thugs or any security agents to harass her.
She sought the order of the court compelling the respondent to provide a suitable accommodation for her and the three children and to continue paying the school fees of the children to university level.
She urged the court to order the respondent to pay the sum of N1 million monthly to her, for feeding, medicals and maintenance of the three children of the marriage.
The petitioner also urged the court to order the respondent to return her personal belongings, clothing and the wares and items he carted away from her shop at Dutse Market.
NAN reports that the respondent is yet to enter appearance or file defence to the petition. (NAN)

Monalisa Stephen, a Nigerian actress, has claimed that she does not believe in marriage, despite the fact that she is a Christian and knows God establishes it.
The plus-sized model revealed this in an interview with The Punch, which was published on Saturday, while addressing misconceptions about her approach to partnerships.
Monalisa confirmed that she never stated she doesn’t need a guy in her life, unlike what the media said about her remark.
She added that being in love with someone does not imply that the relationship must end in marriage, and couples do not have to get engaged before defining what they share as love.
In her words; “I never said I don’t need a man; who doesn’t need a man? However, I don’t think you need to put a (wedding) ring to something to define it as love. That’s why I don’t believe in marriage, although as a Christian, I know it is ordained by God.
But, I don’t believe love has to be defined by a ring. If I love someone, that means I am already committed to them. I am already ‘married’ to them, so they don’t need to give me a ring.”
The controversial social media star also declared that, while she did not wish to have children, she was committed to caring for youngsters in need.
Monalisa Stephen said; “I believe a lot in humanity and caring for others. I have adopted a lot of children and I am currently taking care of them.”

Edochie doesn’t believe these claims. She said, “If what you’re accusing VDM of is true, then you’re also gay. Why are you people bent on using his past to hold him down? I doubt the authenticity of this update about him.”
The actress believes that people are attempting to ruin VDM’s reputation. She stands behind VDM and promises to continue to support him regardless of what others think about him.
Edochie is known for voicing her opinion. She believes in VDM’s character and believes it is unfair to criticize him based on his history.
