President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to visit Ibadan on Friday, September 26, 2025, to attend the coronation ceremony of Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The highly anticipated event will be held at the historic Mapo Hall, drawing a distinguished gathering of Yoruba monarchs, state governors, political leaders, business elites, and thousands of indigenes from across Nigeria and the diaspora.
The coronation marks the grand finale of a weeklong celebration that kicks off on Monday, September 22.
According to the official programme released by the coronation planning committee, festivities will begin with an interdenominational service at the Olubadan Palace. This will be followed by a cultural fiesta on Tuesday at the Olubadan Stadium, showcasing the rich heritage of Ibadan.
On Wednesday, a public lecture will be hosted at the University of Ibadan, while Thursday will feature a praise and worship concert in honor of Oba Ladoja’s 81st birthday.
The coronation ceremony itself will take place on Friday, September 26, culminating in a thanksgiving service on Sunday at the Oke Padre Cathedral. The celebrations will formally conclude with a special Jumat service on Friday, October 3.
Security remains a top priority, with over 2,000 personnel drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services (DSS), Amotekun Corps, and the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) deployed to ensure a safe and orderly celebration.
In a bid to make the event accessible to a wider audience, the Oyo State Government has announced that the coronation will be broadcast live across television, radio, and various online platforms, enabling Nigerians abroad to participate virtually.
Entertainment will be provided by top Fuji artistes from Ibadan, including Saheed Osupa and Taye Currency, alongside other renowned indigenous performers.
The state government and organizing committee have commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering support and commitment to the successful planning and execution of the coronation.
Oba Rashidi Ladoja, a revered statesman, former governor, senator, engineer, and businessman, is widely regarded as a unifying figure. His coronation is expected to reinforce Ibadan’s cultural legacy and project its traditional institutions to national and international audiences.
Among the dignitaries expected to attend are prominent traditional rulers, diplomats, and influential personalities from across Nigeria.
