Tribunal throws out Jegede petition

The Ondo Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Akure has thrown out the petition challenging the victory of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in last year’s governorship election. Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Eyitayo Jegede, had filed the petition seeking to be declared winner of the election on the grounds that Governor Akeredolu was not properly nominated by the All Progressives Congress(APC). But the tribunal headed by Justice Abubakar Umar struck out the petition for want of Jurisdiction. Justice Umar, who delivered the judgment via Zoom, said Jegede has no justification to interfere in the internal affairs of the APC. Justice Umar said: “Issue raised therein in this petition are settled issue of internal affairs and Management of a political party which this Tribunal has no Jurisdiction”. Ondo Election: How Akeredolu Defeated Jegede, Agboola; Won 15 Out of 18 LGAs

By Ogechi Okorie Akure (Precise Post) – Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has been declared winner after polling the highest number of votes in Saturday’s Governorship election. The result was announced by the election’s Chief Returning Officer, Prof. Abel Olayinka who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, UI. The governor who will be spending another four year term in office won in 15 of the 18 local government areas of the state while his rival, Eyitayo Jegede of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP won the remaining three within the Central Senatorial District. Akeredolu’s deputy, Agboola Ajayi who is the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP could not secure any local government. According to the votes which was announced, Akeredolu polled a total of 292,830 votes, Jegede scored 195,791 with Ajayi coming a distant third with 69,127. Abuja (Precise Post) – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raked in N258.7 million from the sales of expression of interest and nomination forms to aspirants ahead of July 20, governorship primaries in Ondo state. Precise Post recalls that the party placed a N22.5 million fee on each of the governorship aspirants, while female aspirants and the physically challenged were asked to pay 50 per cent of the fee. Recall that Mrs Olajumake Anifowoshe was the only female aspirants out the 12 who purchased the expression of interest and nomination forms for the Ondo state primaries. The remaining aspirants included Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Mr Joseph Olusola Iji, Mr Odimayo Okunjimi, Mr Olayide Adelami, Mr Kekemeke Duerimini and Mr Olusola Oke.
