Chelsea’s remarkable triumph at the FIFA Club World Cup has been followed by major transfer news that could reshape the club’s midfield. Reports from Fichajes reveal that Argentine star Enzo Fernandez has reportedly agreed to join Real Madrid in a blockbuster €150 million deal.
Chelsea Crowned Club World Cup Champions
The Blues qualified for the tournament after winning the 2021 UEFA Champions League, where captain Reece James remains the sole squad member from that victorious team.
In a historic final at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Chelsea stunned newly crowned UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with a dominant 3-0 victory, becoming the first English club to lift the new-format FIFA Club World Cup.
This triumph capped a remarkable season under manager Enzo Maresca, who also led Chelsea to victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League—making the club the first to win every competition they entered in a single campaign.
Transfer Business and New Arrivals
Chelsea wasted no time strengthening the squad ahead of next season. New signings João Pedro and Liam Delap played key roles at the Club World Cup, contributing to five of the team’s 17 goals. Meanwhile, Mamadou Sarr and Dario Essugo also collected winners’ medals.
However, the Blues saw Noni Madueke depart a day before the final, as he completed a £52 million transfer to Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Real Madrid Target Enzo Fernandez
The focus has now shifted to Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea’s midfield maestro, who joined the club from Benfica in January 2023 for €121 million. Despite Chelsea extending his contract until June 2032, reports indicate Fernandez is open to a move to Spain.
Real Madrid are prepared to table an offer worth €150 million for the Argentine, viewing him as the ideal addition to a new-look midfield alongside Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Arda Guler.
With the departure of legendary trio Casemiro, Luka Modric, and Toni Kroos, Madrid see Fernandez’s profile as perfect to complete their next-generation midfield.
Last season, Fernandez significantly improved his attacking output, registering nine goals and 17 assists—making him a versatile asset across midfield roles.
Despite Madrid’s interest, Chelsea reportedly remain unwilling to entertain offers for what was the Boehly-Clearlake era’s first major signing.
Chelsea Set to Offload Outcasts
Meanwhile, as part of a summer clear-out, Chelsea have banished four first-team players from group training. All four spent the previous season on loan and are now considered surplus to Enzo Maresca’s plans.
