ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., GCON, has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic deaths of 10 tomato traders from Zaria, who were victims of a brutal attack by bandits.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas condemned the attack in the strongest terms. He called on security agencies to heighten their efforts to rescue the kidnapped victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The traders, hailing from Danmagaji Market in Zaria, were returning from a trip to Katsina and Zamfara states where they had purchased tomatoes.
On their journey back, they were ambushed by armed bandits at Takoki village in Funtua Local Government, Katsina State.
In a desperate attempt to flee, the driver of their truck reversed at high speed, causing the vehicle to plunge off a bridge.
The deadly incident resulted in the deaths of 10 traders, while seven others were injured. Additionally, five traders are believed to have been abducted by the assailants. The bandits also destroyed goods worth approximate60 million Naira.
The Speaker also offered his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, praying for the peaceful repose of their souls.
