Speaker Abbas Mourns Former US Ambassador, Prof. Jibril Aminu

ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –   The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., GCON, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States and elder statesman, Prof. Jibril Aminu.

Prof. Aminu, who served as Nigeria’s envoy to the US from 1999 to 2003 and later represented Adamawa Central in the Senate from 2003 to 2011, died on Thursday in Abuja after a period of illness.

In a condolence message issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas described the late professor as a reputable figure whose life was marked by service, patriotism, and humility.

“Prof. Aminu was a revered technocrat and politician who served the nation with utmost patriotism and loyalty. He was especially an inspiration to many in the public service. His life embodied humility, uprightness, and service to his fatherland,” Speaker Abbas said.

He noted that the death of Prof. Aminu comes at a time when Nigeria needs seasoned patriots and technocrats with deep national and international experience.

“Prof. Aminu was one of the stars Nigeria proudly shared with the world. His contributions to diplomacy, education, and governance were immense and will be remembered,” he added.

Speaker Abbas extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Adamawa State, as well as the family of the late professor, praying for strength and comfort during this period of mourning.

He also prayed to Allah (SWT) to grant Prof. Aminu eternal rest and forgive his shortcomings.
